PLM AND INTERFACE ISSUE DOMINATE BIM WORLD MUNICH 2019

  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) from sustainability viewpoint
  • Cooperation within the cloud without data discontinuities

The issue of interfaces as well as the challenge for construction planners to consider the whole life cycle of a building already during the early stages are the dominating tasks on the BIM World MUNICH this year. Meanwhile, there are programmes that can solve the interface issue and ensure that planners, engineers, architects and other participants, who work with different software and varying data formats, can access consistent data in one cloud. Here, digitalisation of the building and real estate industry has arrived in practice.

Hubert Heinrich, Managing Director at OfficeWare Information Systems GmbH: “OfficeWare provides an automatic, consistent document storage, document import and allocation functions, loading external programmes like MS Office products, transferring addresses to Word, structured document export with overview as well as permanent connection between documents and related emails. In order to manage real estate projects successfully, many interfaces are to be considered and combined.”

Moritz Koppe, Managing Director at emproc SYS, the developers of PROBIS: “By implementing BIM interfaces, we connect intelligent planning and cost data of the Building Information Model with our multi-project controlling software PROBIS. Among others, this refers to geometric building data, execution qualities, attributes like cost groups, cost key values, allocations of structural members and FM information from one budget plan. Thus, all project participants can always access the relevant data in real time – without data discontinuities or interface problems.”

PLM in the real estate industry

With the big issue of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), where the whole life cycle of a property is anticipated digitally, the industry is still in its initial phase. In future, it will be more important that during the planning phase data be already created in a way that original data can be taken into consideration for future maintenance or also conversion of a property.

Franz Madl, Managing Director at pbb Planung und Projektsteuerung GmbH: “We have been representing BIM = PLM for years now and with PLM we already have a database solution that has been standard in the mechanical engineering sector for years. The times of flow-based systems predominating the building sector are over. The quantity of data that is produced with ‘BIM’ due to its attributes cannot be processed on a flow basis anymore. Across the disciplines, property sets and attributes at their LOD stages cannot be organised and edited properly or managed securely and versioned. Unfortunately, this is also the reason why data often cannot be handed over to FM systems in a sensible way. The future of BIM = PLM = BigData with DB.”

Dr.-Ing. Markus Hennecke, Managing Director at ZM-I: “Our aim is to import all relevant data of a BIM model into the digital building logbook (Germ. digitales Bauwerksbuch). The big advantage is that the building structure can be depicted directly and that it can be used as a digital basis for all further building inspections. In the course of the building inspections, further data are added digitally to the individual structural elements. Those can then be reflected back to the BIM model. The client thereby benefits permanently from an up-to-date, transparent and structured documentation.”

The different types of use of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) have already been established in the planning of building projects. The increasing compatibility of various data formats thereby allows for a better cooperation among the project participants. In future, the use of building data across all phases of the life cycle of a property will be ever more relevant – the BIM World MUNICH 2019 has given an outlook on this.

pbb Planung und Projektsteuerung GmbH
pbb is a 100-strong planning team of architects, engineers, specialist engineers and planners based in Ingolstadt and Berlin. Thanks to their optimised working processes, the comprehensive range of services and last but not least their experience, they make their spatial ideas visible. From the first concept on to the maintenance of the building, pbb communicates and documents the project transparently and therefore highly efficiently in cooperation with the client. This has made them one of the best performing providers of architecture and planning in Germany for the last 20 years. With their central, cloud-based data platform, the BIMDesigner, pbb was finalist of the 2019 Smart Building/Smart Construction Innovation World Cup at the BIM World MUNICH 2019.
