BURTON was founded in 1977 by Jake Burton Carpenter in a barn in Vermont, USA. Since then, Jake has dedicated his life to snowboarding. He was considered one of the fathers of modern snowboarding. Without Jake Burton’s vision, snowboarding would not be what it is today. The initially quite simple snow surfers were the basis for a company that still shapes the snowboard world in all its facets today.
Jake Burton Carpenter was not only known for his enthusiasm for his sport and the development of the brand, but also for a sustainable production ethic. Recently, Burton became the first snowboard company to meet the standards to be certified as a B Corporation.
Jake Burton Carpenter lived with his wife, Co-CEO, Donna Carpenter in Zurich, Switzerland. In honor of Jake Burton Carpenter, Co-CEO John Lacy would like to encourage everyone to do what Jake would do tomorrow, namely snowboarding. The snow sports community has lost a great visionary and pioneer.
