“This award recognizes our efforts and encourages us to keep pushing forward with the topic of “affordable, sustainable fashion” and give back to nature by planting trees. We aim to demonstrate even more clearly that fair, affordable fashion is possible. And we want to inspire other brands to do the same,” says Nicholas Hänny.

“Aargauer of the Year” is awarded to people from the Canton of Aargau for extraordinary achievements. In addition to the personal esteem it brings the winner, the award also boosts the image of the Canton. The annual nomination has become an integral part of public life in the Canton of Aargau.

All-male final

The differing histories of the finalists demonstrated the diversity of their extraordinary achievements. David Spielmann (41) gave up his job to donate time to lonely elderly people in 2017, and Nick Alpiger (22) won his fifth wreath at the 2019 Innerschweizer Schwingfest (Central Swiss Wrestling Festival) despite a tendon injury. In the run-up, over 10,000 people took part in the vote to select the three finalists. In the final, the public vote was combined with the audience’s votes. The lucky winner and “Aargauer of the Year” is Nicholas Hänny, co-founder of the sustainable fashion company. The young entrepreneur is donating his winnings to the “One Tree Planted” organization and as such will plant 5,000 trees in one go.
